The 2ES7 freight two-section electric locomotive with asynchronous traction motors is designed for driving freight trains on 1520 mm gauge railways electrified with alternating current voltage of 25 kV.

The 2ES7 freight electric locomotive is capable of driving a train weighing up to 9,000 tons in sections with a track profile up to 8.2 0/00, which is confirmed by the operational tests carried out.

When developing an electric locomotive, advanced technological solutions from domestic manufacturers were taken as a basis. The crew part and body were developed jointly with specialists from the Research and Design Institute of Rolling Stock (JSC VNIKTI), the microprocessor control and diagnostic system was developed jointly with the Ural company SOUTH. The general design, equipment layout, development of electrical circuits and algorithms for the operation of control and cooling systems were carried out by specialists of Ural Locomotives.

Years of production: 2010-2022

Advantage

The microprocessor control system of MPSU and D includes the functions of auto guidance, diagnostics, data transmission via technological radio communication channels, parameter registration, GPS/GLONASS positioning
Integrated asynchronous traction drive based on traction converters with IGBT transistor modules, which allows for high traction
The specific consumption of electricity for train traction has been reduced by 15-20% in relation to electric locomotives with collector drive
Asynchronous traction motors with axial torque control make it possible to realize a high thrust force
The inter-repair runs have been increased by 5 times in relation to electric locomotives with a collector drive
